Investment Strategy & Policy | Process

Fund investments will be made across UK and Western Europe with a focus on funds investing in mature growth companies.

The ATEP team has over 40 years experience in private equity with each member having significant direct investment experience. This provides us with a higher degree of sophistication and deeper insight into a target fund manager whilst directly supporting our proactive co-investment activity, which is a strategic element of ATEP’s approach.

ATEP aims to employ a partnership approach seeking to originate and develop long term relationships with key managers.

Process

Initial Review
The initial review process has the objective of ensuring that the opportunity fits our investment policy and is consistent with our investment criteria. One of our directors will be allocated to the case and will make an assessment as to whether the merits of the case justify further review.

Presentation
An ATEP director will attend the first meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to hear the opportunity directly and explore the strategy and track record of the manager in more detail.

Assessment
Following this meeting, we meet as an investment team to assess the opportunity. Often some additional information on the key areas will be requested in advance of this meeting. The objective of this meeting is to decide whether to proceed with the opportunity and to set broad parameters on the terms acceptable to us.

Research and Due Diligence
Where we decide to proceed, we will conduct some detailed research on the manager. This will involve further meetings with the investment team. This process gathers the information required to make a decision on whether to invest and on what terms.

The due diligence process will usually be conducted internally by ATEP and will include track record and performance, investment strategy, deal flow, the managers industry networks, investor reporting and procedures, due diligence practices and detailed third party referencing.

Approval
Once due diligence is completed, the results will be reviewed, a final approval decision made and where appropriate, completion of the legal documentation.
